Frontend Engineer, and the only one on the team
Alloc-8 helps UK universities place nursing and healthcare students into hospital placements. Everything a user sees is mine to get right.
- Took the frontend from an empty repo to a product with three faces: a staff dashboard, a student portal and a provider portal, all behind one login. Many thousands of lines of TypeScript later (seventy thousand, but who is counting), it is still one codebase I can hold in my head.
- Accessibility was never a second thought. The app meets WCAG 2.2 AA, which UK universities need before they can buy. I wrote the compliance audit myself, and a lint gate in CI turns away any code that would break it.
- The hardest screen is the allocation wizard. It places hundreds of students into hospitals and shows coordinators exactly why each match was made, so the result is something they can stand behind rather than a black box.
- Built the design system from nothing: the components, light and dark themes, and colours measured for contrast instead of eyeballed.
- I look after delivery too: the Azure pipeline, production hosting, and feature flags so one codebase can give each university a slightly different product.
- Renewed three times so far, most recently for a full year.
